A Call For Health

During this past week (I think it was the hardest since the last hardest hardest) so much happened in so little time that I think my body could not keep up with the pace and the different emotions. So like any engine, it collapsed. I fell sick.I hate medicine, I know all about paracetamol, amoxicillin, Brufens, viatmine C, Glucophage, Cetrizet ,etc. And I hate them. Hence why I try my best to keep healthy. I wanna live until 103! Which is what I wanted to discuss about in this post. How important is your health? What do you eat? How much do you exercise? How much water do you drink? Who do you hang out with? What do you listen to?

What does it mean to be healthy? ( Google it! no, seriously google it?) In my layman definition of being healthy it means feeling good from the inside out.Not just body wise, but the body, mind and spirit. It is more than eating vegetables, it is much more than drinking eight glasses of water a day. It is about, yes, eating healthy but also having the right relationships, living in harmony with others and the environment and having a relationship with God.

As youths we assume that life is good, we are in the best shape of our lives ( got the six packs, play football- that’s exercise enough-I got my size eight shape and other girls are jealous of me) but we forget that what we do today affects our tomorrow. The binge drinking, the smoking, the sheeshas we take, the sleepless night we spend partying( some are holy than thou and don’t party but study; I’m not advising to stop late night sessions to study but remember your body needs 7-8 hours of sleep) has consequences later on in life. Newton well put it in his third Law : For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Lets invest in our health, money in the bank will mean nothing once you are six feet under.

On the topic of good relations with others, I have said it before and will say it again and again: bad company corrupts good morals. In my political science class, the lecturer likes to say:show me your five friends and i will show you who you are. Are your five friends: the spoiled brat who thinks dad and mom will always be there to provide all the needs, the drinker, the YOLO type (which by the way I so much disagree with, You die once, you live everyday. So I’m YODO ),etc. Chose your friends wisely and keep those close once closer and spread the love make them feel loved. Don’t get to a point in time where you have to say  I wish  I had loved more, remember it is better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all.

Thirdly, please get it right with God. ( If today was your last day- Nickleback comes to mind). At the end of the day, we will have to give account to the Almighty. I will leave it there.

Global Leadership Summit 2015 lessons learned

Global Leadership summit

On Thursday and Friday this past week I attended the Global Leadership Summit. I learned a lot and also learned to share. So here are a few of the lessons that I took and working on it’s application in my daily life.

  1. Grit: courage and resolve; strength of character. The grit development demands difficulty, you have to will yourself to task achievement. Overcoming physical challenges is one way, hanging around people who got it is another. ( waking up at 6, exercising, talk to people outside your hangout group….)

2. Who are you trying to impress? Thre is a thing called ‘blind spots”and everyone got it. Those are the things you have no idea exists, maybe its overworking, not talking to people, those around ( peers, family, close friends are the mirror to use in this case)

3.  What is it that moves you and drives you as a leader? What’s your hot white why ?

4. Surround yourself with people who grow youglobal leadership summit

5. People are not looking for performance they are looking for authenticity

6. True creators stay in the game

7. Each leader should ask: how will you change people’s lives?

8. Leaders have forfeited the right to excuses

9. Not all your sons will stay with you. Some people will have to go. Don’t try to hold on to people who are not there for you

10. You cannot sustain the strain of leadership without the hand of God

11. If you want to increase your influence, increase your capacity.

12. How bad you want something determines what you will do to get it.Global Leadership summit

Leaders should create new structures

13. Longevity is the greatest thing you can have for the glory of the Lord.

   14. Following you should hold the promise of life change for those who follow you.

As i examine myself, and try to apply these things one of my friends ( guess she is for keeps as she helps me grow) sent me this few note about starting new habits:

H  Have a Plan.  What is one specific habit you need to develop or eliminate from your life?

A  Add pain or pleasure.  What is the pain or pleasure that will result from this new habits.

B  Build in accountability.

I  Internalize the Truth.  Modify the way in which you think.

T  Try and try again.
